Former 2016 Trump campaign manager Corey Lewandowski criticized Nikki Haley's 2024 campaign amid reports alleging it double-counted some of its fundraising earnings.

Haley's campaign touted an over $11 million windfall in the six weeks since its launch, but Lewandowski pointed to reports suggesting her campaign double-counted some of its earnings. Haley's allies have countered that her campaign was transparent and followed the practices of other campaigns.

TRUMP PULLS IN ALMOST $19 MILLION FIRST QUARTER AS INDICTMENT ROCKETS HIS FUNDRAISING

"Nikki Haley’s campaign vastly overstated her fundraising. That’s not a good way to start a campaign," Lewandowski chided, linking to a Washington Post report on the matter.

Campaigns often tout their earnings before records become public with the Federal Election Commission.

Haley's campaign cited fundraising from three entities: Nikki Haley for President, her campaign committee, which got $5.1 million; Team Stand For America, her joint fundraising committee that amassed $4.4 million; and her Stand For America PAC, which collected $1.5 million, according to election filings.

Taken together, funds from the trio hit the $11 million mark.

But the Washington Post and a Politico report highlighted how the filings showed Nikki Haley for President's earnings included a $1.8 million transfer from Team Stand For America, and Stand For America PAC's included $900,000 moved from the Team Stand For America joint fundraising committee for a total of $2.7 million combined.

In other words, the reports suggested that Haley's campaign apparatus actually only raked in a net of $8.3 million.

In contrast, former President Donald Trump’s campaign recently touted a roughly $19 million first-quarter haul that included roughly $14.5 million from the main campaign and $4.3 million from a leadership PAC, according to the Washington Post. About $14 million of the $14.5 figure comes from a joint fundraising committee. If Trump’s campaign had used the same methods as Haley’s campaign, he could have claimed he raised $32 million despite actually having far less.

Haley's team has maintained that it's standard practice for campaigns to tout earning figures from groups affiliated with the campaign.

The discrepancy remains in a grey area, and there have been examples of Trump's campaign allegedly boosting his numbers as well in previous reporting, according to Politico. During the last quarterly deadline, it was reported that Trump's campaign asserted that it raised $9.5 million after the launch of his 2024 campaign. However, the actual figure would have been closer to $5 million as it double-counted money transferred from the joint fundraising committee toward others.

Haley's campaign declined to comment to the Washington Examiner.

Haley has consistently polled as Trump's top declared GOP primary rival, though other speculated candidates, such as Gov. Ron DeSantis, have not launched their campaigns.

Of the rumored candidates, Haley is in fifth place, behind DeSantis, former Vice President Mike Pence, and former Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY), per the latest RealClearPolitics aggregate.
