Joe Biden’s presidential campaign has made no meaningful effort to appeal to Republican voters. Despite this, some disenfranchised backers of former presidential candidate Nikki Haley are helping the president’s reelection bid, completely undermining the issues that Haley ran on.
The former U.N. Ambassador’s campaign focused on foreign policy above all else, and Haley herself has explained Biden’s national defense ineptitude. She said that “Hamas was better positioned to attack Israel because Biden spent three-plus years appeasing Iran.”
On Ukraine, she argued that “while the Ukrainians have proven to be amazing fighters, Biden refuses to help them win. He gives them just enough to survive, while Russian missiles and tanks grind their country to dust.”
“He weakened America while letting China, Russia, and Iran grow stronger, and he still has time to do even more damage,” according to Haley. This is only scratching the surface, as Biden’s positions on abortion, the economy, immigration, and almost every other policy issue are diametrically opposed to Haley’s worldview.
While Biden has said that “there is a place for [Haley voters] in my campaign,” he has no real plans to concede anything meaningful to earn their vote. To support him purely out of hatred for Donald Trump does not fix anything.
After 2024, Republicans will need to work on shaping a post-Trump vision for conservatism. Haley’s optimistic demeanor, national security expertise, and understanding of what has made the Republican Party successful in the past places her in a prime position to be a key player in this realignment.
Those who want to promote Haley’s vision for the future of the GOP would only undermine their case by supporting Biden. Five out of the last seven Republican presidential nominees failed in their first run, but all endorsed the men who defeated them. Reagan endorsed Ford, Bush endorsed Reagan, Dole endorsed Bush, and so on. Haley’s defeat in 2024 does not mean she has been relegated to the sidelines, and she has made clear that she will be voting for Trump in November.

The “Never Trumpers” have lost all credibility because they spent the last eight years losing their minds about minor infractions and undermining conservative causes. The Haley voting bloc cannot repeat the mistakes of the Never Trumpers, or they risk becoming just as irrelevant. Instead of defining themselves based on what they are opposed to, they should unite around what they support.
The fact is that Trump is the GOP nominee, and Republican voters want Trump to win. Former Haley supporters will not be able to shape the Republican Party tomorrow if they undermine the Republican Party today.
