Former Gov. Jay Inslee (D-WA) pushed for Democrats to drop their “days of grieving” after the 2024 election, urging members of his party to “confront” President Donald Trump’s vision for the nation.
Trump has spent his first nine days in office issuing numerous executive orders, leaving many Democratic lawmakers in disarray over how to respond. Inslee, who just finished his third term as governor, said he was announcing “by executive order” an end to the party’s days of “impassivity” and playing “footsy” with the president.
DISORIENTED DEMOCRATS STILL DON’T KNOW WHAT HIT THEM
“This is not a moment to be in our cups anymore feeling sorry for ourselves,” Inslee said on MSNBC’s Morning Joe. “This was a very narrowly decided election. We Democrats are different than Donald Trump, we respect the voters, and recognize it and didn’t stage an insurgency. But now is the time to get up there on our hind legs and confront this guy every single place we can.”
The former governor also said that his party has been “too passive and quiet” in responding to Trump’s agenda and that Democratic lawmakers have “woken up” over the last day with Trump’s recent action to put a pause to federal aid, which was temporarily halted by a federal judge.

Amid the response to Trump’s actions since becoming president again, some Democrats have targeted Trump for not lowering the price of groceries “immediately” after his inauguration. Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) and Rep. Jim McGovern (D-MA) co-wrote a letter, signed by 20 Democrats, to the president stating how Trump campaigned on lowering grocery prices right after taking office but has spent his first few days focused on deportations and pardoning January 6 attackers.”
Vice President JD Vance urged voters to be patient as they wait for their grocery bill to come down, stating it would take more than a few days to undo “all of the damage of Joe Biden’s presidency.” The vice president added that his boss has “already taken multiple executive actions” to lower food and gas prices but the actions would need time to fully take effect.
