Former Democratic National Committee Chairwoman Donna Brazile has warned the party should take the next presidential election seriously.

Brazile's concerns come as President Joe Biden is running for reelection in 2024, though some are concerned that his age, at 80 years old currently, could be a drawback to winning votes. In running Biden for reelection, Brazile said on Sunday that the Democratic Party should run as if "we're 10 points behind" to motivate Democratic supporters to vote.

“I’m not sleeping at night thinking all is well, OK?” Brazile said. “I have nieces and nephews who say, ‘Well, why should I vote for this guy? He’s a little old.’ I say, ‘Your papa was old, too, and look what he did to help you.’ So I think the Democrats have to continue to make the case. Democrats should be concerned.”

Brazile went on to praise Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris, saying that they should tout their “record of accomplishment” since taking office in January 2021 in their reelection campaign.

Biden's age has been a growing concern for many voters, with 77% of voters in a poll believing that Biden is too old to be president for another term, including 69% of Democrats. In the event that Biden wins reelection, he would be 86 by the time he finishes his second term.

The Republican Party is aiming to retake the White House in 2024, with multiple Republican lawmakers running in the party's primary race. Of the declared candidates, former U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley held the largest lead in a general matchup against Biden, with Haley receiving 49% against Biden's 43%, according to polling data.

Other Republicans running in the primary include former President Donald Trump, Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL), former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, and business entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy. When all of the declared Republican candidates were compared to Biden in a general election, nearly all of them won, aside from DeSantis, who tied with Biden at 47%, and Ramaswamy, who lost with 45% against Biden's 46%.
