Former U.S. Border Patrol chief Ron Vitiello accused Gov. Gavin Newsom (D-CA) of opposing the will of the voters, specifically over his choice to protect illegal immigrants.

The California governor’s team has drafted a memo titled the “Immigrant Support Network Concept” to serve as a framework to carry out resistance to President-elect Donald Trump’s “law and order” immigration agenda, according to a report. Vitiello, who served as Trump’s Border Patrol chief during the former president’s first term, argued this “destructive leadership” by Newsom runs counter to the results of the election, in which voters stated that “something must be done” about illegal immigration.

NO MORE WELFARE FOR ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS

“This is a state that has some of the highest income taxes in the country, some of the highest sales tax in the country, and there is about a $68 billion deficit. Billion with a ‘b,’” Vitiello said on Fox News’s Fox & Friends. “And so he’s going to use taxpayer resources to protect who exactly? People who are in the country illegally who broke the law to be there and have also broken the law in the jurisdictions in which they live in California. And so this is destructive leadership shown by Gavin Newsom, and it’s not what people voted for. It’s not what the people of California need, but that is unfortunately what they have: this terrible leadership in the likes of Gavin Newsom in California, who’s going to destroy that state if he hasn’t already gone a long way to do it.”

Vitiello went on to say California is “going broke” due to the “wokeness” of Newsom’s policies and leadership, adding that he is encouraging more immigrants to cross the border illegally. He also suggested that Newsom’s visits to the White House were done to “measure the drapes” of the nation’s capital, warning that the governor has “no business” in a leadership role.

Regarding the incoming Trump administration, Vitiello assessed that the president-elect and incoming border czar, Tom Homan, would have to “work hard” to implement their mass deportations. He added that those on the front line will be able to work to secure the nation “with or without” Newsom’s help.

Since being selected as Trump’s border czar, Homan told the Washington Examiner how the incoming administration will arrest, detain, and remove hundreds of thousands of illegal immigrants living in the United States. He also said immigrants whose only accused crime is entering the country illegally can expect deportation.

Homan has repeatedly warned Democratic lawmakers aiming to oppose Trump’s deportations that they need to “get out of the way” of the administration’s work. He has also warned that Denver Mayor Mike Johnston could face jail time due to his opposition to the incoming deportations.
