Ford expects its recall letters to be sent to owners by July 5, and the company expects to have its repairs available to drivers by September. The repair will come in the form of a software update on the powertrain control module software at the dealership.

Ford said drivers will be warned of a downshift to first gear by a malfunction indicator light illuminating.
