People who benefit from the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program in Virginia will begin to see their payments for the month of August sent out in two days.

Food stamps in the Old Dominion provide funds to help low-income people pay for groceries and are distributed from the 1st through the 7th of every month, and distribution for next month begins on Aug. 1.

SNAP benefits in the commonwealth of Virginia may be used to buy "food or food products meant to be eaten by people," along with seeds and food-producing plants, among other things. SNAP benefits may not be used for nonfood items, including alcohol, tobacco, medicines, gardening items, cleaning or paper products, pet food, and prepared hot foods.

In the Old Dominion, food stamps are distributed via a Virginia EBT (electronic benefit transfer) card, and funds are sent out on different days depending on someone's case number.

Beneficiaries with a case number that ends in 0-3 will see their benefits on Aug. 1, those with a case number ending in 4 or 5 will see their benefits on Aug. 4, and those with a case number ending in 6-9 will see their benefits Aug. 7.
