NextImg:Food stamps: Utah to receive second round of direct payments worth up to $1,330 in two days

Utah residents who receive assistance from The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program will see their second round of payments for August in two days.

SNAP recipients are likely to see their food stamps reloaded on the same day each month, and Utah sends out benefits on three dates throughout the month: Aug. 5, 11, and 15.

Utahans who get nutrition assistance to buy food will receive their payments based on the first letter of an individual's last name.

The amount of SNAP recipients will be sent depend on multiple factors, such as the size of a household, income limits, and other additional assets.

The maximum SNAP benefits for a household of one is $281, and for a household of three, the maximum increases to $740. The maximum amount listed is $1,330 for a household of six.

To qualify, Utah households must be 130% below the federal poverty level. For a household of one, the gross monthly income limit is $1,473. For three, the income limit is $2,495, and for a household of six, the limit is $4,029.

Those who receive SNAP can use an electronic benefit transfer card to purchase eligible food items, like bread, fruits, vegetables, meats, fish and poultry, seeds, and plants to grow food and dairy items. Alcohol, pet food, and cleaning supplies are excluded from the program.

In Utah, approximately 5% of the population, or 156,300 people, receive food stamps. Those interested in applying can do so through the Utah portal called myCase. Residents can also apply at an employment center, or mail an application.
