NextImg:Food stamps: September SNAP payments worth up to $1,691 for Kansas residents to end in four days

Kansas residents with last names starting with M to Z will receive payments from the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program over the next four days before the program wraps up for September.

Payments were sent out beginning on Sept. 1 and will continue until Sept. 10. In the Sunflower State, food stamps are sent out based on the first letter of a recipient's last name.

In the event that a household becomes eligible for SNAP on Sept. 10, they will still receive their payment for September — they will not need to wait until October to collect.

If the last name begins with A and B, payments will arrive on the 1st. Payments to households with last names starting with C and D arrive on the 2nd. Payments to households with last names starting with E, F, and G arrive on the 3rd. Payments to households with last names starting with H, I, and J arrive on the 4th.

Payments to households with last names starting with K and L arrive on the 5th. Payments to households with last names starting with M arrive on the 6th. Payments to households with last names starting with N, O, P, Q, and R arrive on the 7th. Payments to households with last names starting with S arrive on the 8th. Payments to households with last names starting with T, U, and V arrive on the 9th. Payments to households with last names starting with W, X, Y, and Z arrive on the 10th.

In Kansas, the maximum SNAP payments are $281 for a household of one, $939 for a household of four, and $1,691 for a household of eight. For additional household members, $211 is added.

Sunflower State SNAP recipients make up 7% of the state's population, with 195,800 people receiving food stamps.

Food stamps are reloaded onto an electronic benefits transfer card each month and are intended for purchasing healthy foods and groceries. The money can be used at participating grocery stores, online retailers, and farmers markets.
