Colorado residents who participate in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program can expect to receive their payment worth up to $1,691 for September in two days.

SNAP benefits, known as food stamps, are issued to low-income families and residents to help with grocery purchases every month. In the Centennial State, payments are distributed from Sept. 1 to Sept. 10, and the exact payment dates depend on the last digit of a SNAP recipient's Social Security number. Beneficiaries will usually see their payments around the same time every month, according to the 2023 schedule.

The amount of SNAP benefits Coloradans will get is dependent on a few different factors, such as household size, income, earned income, and unearned income. The maximum payment for one person is $281 per month. The maximum payment for a four-person family is $939, and a household of eight can receive a maximum payment of $1,691. For every additional member after that, SNAP will add a maximum of $211.

Most Colorado households with income of less than 200% of the federal poverty level will be eligible for SNAP. A household of one has a gross income limit of $2,266 a month, while a household of four is limited to $4,626, and a household of eight is maxed out at $7,772.

Funds are loaded onto an electronic benefit transfer card, called the Colorado Quest card, which can be used like a debit card at qualifying stores to purchase eligible grocery items, such as bread, dairy products, meat and poultry, and drink items. Pet food, alcohol, and household items such as soap and paper products are ineligible.

In Colorado, around 540,300 people, or roughly 9% of the state's population, receive food stamps, according to 2022 data from the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities.

Those interested in applying for SNAP benefits have multiple options to submit their application, through MyCOBenefits, and once accepted, residents can maintain their benefits on their PEAK account on colorado.gov.
