Maine residents will continue to receive payments from the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program over the next three days before the program wraps up for September.

Food stamps are sent out to residents in the Pine Tree State from Sept. 10 through Sept. 14. Payments are sent out depending on a person's day of birth. However, if a resident becomes eligible on Thursday, they will still receive their benefits for the month.

Recipients born on days ending in 0 or 9 collected their benefits on Sunday, and those born on days ending in 1 or 8 will receive benefits on Monday. Those born on days ending in 2 or 3 will get their benefits on Tuesday, and those born on days ending in 4 or 7 receive their benefits on Wednesday. People born on days ending in 5 or 6 will see their monthly benefits on Thursday.

The maximum SNAP payments are $281 for a household of one, $939 for a household of four, and $1,691 for a household of eight. For additional household members, $211 is added. The average payment per household member per month in Maine is $168.

Approximately 12% of the population, or 161,800 people, receive food stamps in Maine.
