


Food stamp recipients in Maine will start to see their monthly payments for August in two days.
The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program offers benefits to help low-income people pay for groceries and sends out payments to eligible residents in Maine from the 10th through the 14th. Payments for this month will begin to be loaded onto the EBT cards of beneficiaries on Aug. 10.

Benefits in the Pine Tree State are sent out depending on a person's day of birth. Recipients born on days ending in 0 or 9 will get their benefits on Aug. 10, and those born on days ending in 1 or 8 will see their benefits on Aug. 11. Those born on days ending in 2 or 3 will get their benefits on Aug. 12, and those born on days ending in 4 or 7 receive their benefits on Aug. 13. People born on days ending in 5 or 6 will see their monthly benefits on Aug. 14.
Residents enrolled in the program may use their EBT card to buy groceries and seeds. More information on eligible items is available on the state's website.

The amounts people receive as part of the SNAP program depend on a variety of factors, but the state said the average benefit per household is $168 per month. The state said roughly 161,800 people are on the food stamp program in Maine.
To be eligible for SNAP in Maine, a person may make a maximum annual income of $26,973 for a household of one or $65,009 for a household of five. The maximum income requirements vary for other household sizes and can be found on the state's website.
