California's Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program will send out January payments worth up to $1,751 to low-income households in three days.

The federal SNAP program, known as CalFresh in the Golden State, will start issuing benefits on the first of the month and end on Jan. 10, 2024. Payments will be distributed to qualified low-income households depending on a recipient's case number.

SOCIAL SECURITY UPDATE: FIRST ROUND OF JANUARY PAYMENTS WORTH $4,873 GOES OUT IN 12 DAYS

For example, California recipients with case numbers ending in 1 will receive their CalFresh benefits on Jan. 1, and those with case numbers ending in 2 will receive their benefits on Jan 2. The payment dates continue until Jan. 10, when those with case numbers ending in 0 will receive their payments.

The payout a household will receive depends on several factors, including household size, income limits, and additional assets. The maximum payment is $291 for a household of one, $973 for a household of four, and $1,751 for a household of eight. Up to $219 is added to a household's food stamps for each member after eight.

SNAP benefits are loaded onto an electronic benefits transfer card every month, and recipients can use the card at grocery stores to purchase eligible products such as fruits, vegetables, bread, meat and poultry, and drinks. Recipients are barred from using SNAP benefits for products such as pet food, alcohol, and household items including paper and soap.
