The maximum payment is $1,691 for a household of eight, and after eight, SNAP adds $211 for each additional member.

In Indiana, the average payment per household member per month is $182. About 617,600 people, or 9% of the state's population, receive food stamps, according to the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities.
Benefits are loaded on an electronic benefits transfer card, known as the Hoosier Works card in Indiana. The date recipients will see their payments depends on the first three letters of their last name. SNAP can be used to buy grocery items, such as meat and poultry products, bread and cereal, and seeds for growing food. SNAP cannot be used to purchase alcohol, cleaning supplies, or pet food.
