


Wednesday is the last day Michigan recipients of the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program will receive their SNAP benefits this month.
Approximately 1.34 million Michigan residents, or 13% of the population, receive food stamps. The average payment per household member per month is $188.
FOOD STAMPS: ONE BILL COULD GIVE BILLIONS TO SNAP PROGRAM
The maximum payment that Michigan households can receive is $281 for a family of one, $939 for a family of four, and $1691 for a family of eight.
SNAP benefits are calculated based on household income and size. The recipient's household income generally must be at or below 130% of the poverty line. In fiscal 2023, the poverty line used to calculate SNAP benefits is $1,920 a month.

Michigan's SNAP benefits are issued beginning June 5 until June 21. The dates typically stay the same month-to-month but vary by state.
Recipients usually see their SNAP benefits reloaded on the same day each month, with the date depending upon a recipient's Social Security number, last name, case number, or account number.
