All recipients of the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program in Maine will have their monthly benefits delivered to them within the next day.

SNAP benefits, more commonly known as food stamps, are distributed to eligible residents from the 10th to the 14th of every month, with all beneficiaries scheduled to have their benefits for the month by Friday.

The day recipients in Maine receive their food stamp benefits is dependent on the day they were born. Recipients born on days ending in 0 or 9 get their benefits on Monday; those born on days ending in 1 or 8 get their benefits on Tuesday; those born on days ending in 2 or 3 get their benefits on Wednesday; those born on days ending in 4 or 7 get their benefits on Thursday; and those born on days ending in 5 or 6 get their benefits on Friday.

In Maine, the average benefit payment per household member is $168, with about 12% of the state's population receiving assistance paying for food via SNAP. The number of SNAP recipients in Maine is approximately 161,800.

SNAP benefits can be used for food, groceries to prepare, and seeds, but they cannot be used to purchase prepared meals from grocery stores or restaurants.

Benefits are loaded onto an electronic benefit transfer card, allowing beneficiaries to purchase eligible items at stores. Beneficiaries can purchase food items with their EBT card in store and online at eligible retailers.

The maximum annual income permitted to be eligible for SNAP in Maine depends on household size. For a household of one, the maximum annual income is $26,973, and for a household of five, the maximum annual income is $65,009.
