The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program will conclude its August payments for low-income Louisiana residents in one day.

The last SNAP payment in August will be sent out Wednesday as food stamps are issued from the 1st to the 23rd of every month in Louisiana, according to the state's 2023 schedule.

Louisianians must meet several household and income requirements to qualify for food stamps. The median payment per household member is $192, and the maximum payment for a household of one is $281. A household of eight can receive a maximum payment of $1,691.

SNAP payments are issued on an electronic benefits transfer card, which is referred to as the Louisiana Purchase Card in the state. The card can be used like a debit card to buy grocery items such as meat and poultry products, bread and cereal, and seeds for growing food. SNAP cannot be used to purchase alcohol, cleaning supplies, or pet food.
