Florida State University will reportedly explore options on whether to remain a member of the Atlantic Coast Conference during a Board of Trustees meeting on Friday.

The meeting, scheduled for 10 a.m. on Friday, will include discussions about a possible exit from the ACC through legal action against contracts that keep the university tied to the conference for 12 more years, according to the Associated Press, citing a person familiar with the situation.

The future of Florida State's affiliation with the ACC has been in question for some time. It and Clemson have both expressed discontent over the gap between how much ACC schools get paid compared to other Power Five conferences.

Another point that has contributed to Florida State's dissatisfaction with the ACC was when the school was snubbed from the College Football Playoff despite winning the ACC, a Power Five conference, and going 13-0. The playoff committee selected the 12-1 Texas Longhorns, which won the Big 12, and the 12-1 Alabama Crimson Tide, which won the Southeastern Conference, over the undefeated Florida State Seminoles in the four-team playoff.

The team was ranked No. 5 in the final rankings and was selected to play in the Orange Bowl against the sixth-ranked Georgia Bulldogs.

The snub by the committee sparked the outrage of Florida lawmakers, who slammed the decision as "corrupt" and "illogical," with Sen. Rick Scott (R-FL) sending a letter to the committee requesting information regarding the decision.

Florida Attorney General Ashley Moody launched an investigation into the decision, seeking to understand if they had committed any "anticompetitive conduct." She is seeking records from the committee on its decision, including a tally of the final vote.
