The Sarasota County School Board is expected to vote on a resolution to request the resignation of board member Bridget Ziegler as her husband, Florida Republican Party Chairman Christian Ziegler, is embroiled in a sexual assault investigation.
Authored by board Chairwoman Karen Rose, the resolution will be voted on Tuesday evening, but the school board cannot directly remove Bridget Ziegler from her role. She was appointed in 2014 by former Gov. Rick Scott (R-FL), who now serves in the Senate.

Bridget Ziegler, the co-founder of the conservative parental rights group Moms For Liberty, and her husband have close ties with the leaders of the state’s Republican Party — Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) appointed her to sit on the tourism district that governs the Walt Disney World before his public feud with the company.
DeSantis and Florida Republican leaders have called on Christian Ziegler to resign as the state's GOP chairman, but he has refused, calling the allegations against him “false” in an email to state Republicans on Dec. 2. “We have a country to save, and I am not going to let false allegations of a crime put that mission on the bench as I wait for this process to wrap up,” he said.
The Sarasota Police Department is investigating a woman's accusation that Christian Ziegler raped her on Oct. 2 at her apartment.
In recently released court documents, Bridget Ziegler confirmed to investigators that she and her husband were in a consensual three-way sexual tryst with the woman around a year ago, who is now accusing Christian Ziegler of rape. On the day of the alleged sexual assault, Bridget Ziegler was expected to show up for the encounter but was unable to make it, according to police reports.
The news that the Sarasota Police Department was investigating the Florida GOP chairman broke on Nov. 30 as a heavily redacted 13-page police report came to light, confirming an "active criminal investigation."
The Florida Trident, published by the Florida Center for Government Accountability, reported that sources close to the investigation alleged the woman who accused the state GOP chairman of rape was in a “long-standing consensual three-way sexual relationship prior to the incident" with the couple.
Christian Ziegler's attorney, Derek Byrd, said in a statement that he is confident the Florida GOP chairman will be “completely exonerated.”

Florida Republican Vice Chairman Evan Power, who has pushed for Christian Ziegler to step down, called for a meeting on Sunday in Orlando, Florida, to discuss the GOP chairman’s future.
