Sen. John Fetterman (D-PA) revealed that he intends to vote against legislation to rein in U.S. involvement in Israel’s combat with Iran, shrugging off the possibility of being “an outlier” among Democratic lawmakers.

Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) introduced the No War Against Iran Act to prohibit using federal funds on military use in or against Iran without specific authorization from Congress, warning that U.S. lawmakers must be clear that the United States cannot get “dragged into [Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin] Netanyahu’s war of choice.” When asked about the legislation, Fetterman said he would “always” support Israel, claiming that “taking out Iran” is necessary to achieve “real peace in the Middle East.”

“Now if I’m an outlier in Democratic, I guess perhaps, I’m unapologetically very pro-Israel,” Fetterman stated on Fox News’s America’s Newsroom. “And now here, it’s what’s true is that Iran has nuclear ambitions, 100%. And now we can’t ever allow them to acquire a bomb, and now what is also true is that they have created the proxies. They have Hamas and Hezbollah, so now let’s hold them accountable for this. And again, absolutely magnificent what Israel has done since Saturday when this launched as well. Done with such precision and lethality, and we want to support that. Now, I think we’ve absolutely got to follow them into this and take out the nuclear facilities because it might not even — a true, true path for real peace in the region, cause now taking out Iran at this point, that’s necessary if you ever have a chance to have any real peace in the Middle East.”

Fetterman was then asked how far the U.S. should go in supporting Israel in its fight with Iran, and he responded that the U.S. has “the tools” while Israel has “the need” to accomplish its mission against Iran. The senator added that Israel is off to “a great start” and encouraged the country to “keep dropping 30,000-pound bunker busters” on its rival nation.

Israel does not have the “bunker-busting” bombs believed to be needed to destroy Iran’s Fordow Fuel Enrichment Plant, located within the Kūh-e Dāgh Ghū’ī mountain. However, the U.S. does.

Following the Hamas terrorist group’s attack on Israel in October 2023, Fetterman has been outspoken in his support for the Jewish state. During a visit to the country earlier this year, he was gifted a silver-plated pager by Netanyahu, who thanked him last year for his “courageous” support for Israel.

On Monday, Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY) revealed that he is introducing “a bipartisan War Powers Resolution” to prohibit the U.S.’s involvement in the war between Israel and Iran. He has invited all members of Congress to co-sponsor his legislation, which Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) has already agreed to.
