Sen. John Fetterman (D-PA) has taken another shot at Republican lawmakers criticizing him over his choice of clothing, saying he will wear a suit if House Republicans prevent a government shutdown.

Fetterman's joke at Republicans comes as the impending deadline for Congress to avoid a government shutdown is set for Sept. 30. The Pennsylvania senator joked that he would "save democracy" by wearing a suit and heeding the criticism.

"If those jagoffs in the House stop trying to shut our government down, and fully support Ukraine, then I will save democracy by wearing a suit on the Senate floor next week," Fetterman wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter.

Fetterman, known for attending Senate hearings while wearing his signature hoodie and jogging shorts, has been criticized by many on the Right for his lack of etiquette regarding his clothing in the Senate. Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) described Fetterman's choice of outfits as "disrespectful to the body" of the Senate, while Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) stated that the Senate should "stop lowering the bar" on dress codes.

Fetterman has deflected the criticisms and has also begun selling merchandise and T-shirts based off the criticisms he has received.

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) said that while senators can wear what they choose, he will "continue to wear a suit" despite the dress code amendment.

Staff members will still be required to follow the old dress code.
