Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) said former National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases Director Dr. Anthony Fauci needs to come before Congress and answer to the public about the alleged decision to fund gain-of-function research and the truth behind the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Ultimately, Dr. Fauci is gonna need to come back in and explain why he made this decision,” Paul said during an appearance on Newsmax’s National Report. “There ultimately will be an interview, either voluntarily or involuntarily, if he won’t come.”

“He will have to come back and explain to the American people why he decided to fund this research in China. This may be one of the greatest medical errors in modern history, and he bears a large part of the responsibility for this.”

Paul has been an outspoken leader in the movement to uncover the truth behind the origins of COVID-19 and said President Donald Trump’s administration is “helping.”

“We’ve been through several years of the Biden administration actually trying to hide the ball, covering up what happened, obscuring the truth, and really refusing to give any records concerning this,” the senator said.

“I’ve been trying for over three years to get non-classified records about the decision to fund the research in Wuhan, and it’s been denied.”

Paul said the records are beginning to flow under Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and National Institutes of Health Director Jay Bhattacharya.

“What we’re discovering is, yes, they did debate over whether or not it was gain-of-function,” Paul said. “Fauci said everybody said it was not gain of function. Well, we’re going to get to the bottom of this.”

WHITE HOUSE DECLARES LAB LEAK AS ‘TRUE ORIGIN’ OF COVID-19 IN WEBSITE REVAMP

The Kentucky senator’s comments come after the White House remodelled its webpage on COVID-19 to reflect the position that the virus originated from a lab in China.

“A lab-related incident involving gain-of-function research is the most likely the origin of COVID-19,” the webpage reads. “Current government mechanisms for overseeing this dangerous gain-of-function research are incomplete, severely convoluted, and lack global applicability.”
