NextImg:Father of young Kansas City Chiefs fan says it is 'a little too late' for an apology

The father of the young Kansas City Chiefs fan who was attacked online over racism accusations said it is "a little too late" for an apology over the attacks his son faced.

Bubba Armenta said he was angry and "upset" over the accusations against his son, noting it has been "a pretty crazy couple of days." On Monday, an online outlet falsely accused his son of racism for wearing a Native American headdress and for wearing blackface, even though his son was actually wearing red and black face paint and is of Native American descent.

"It's a little too late for that," Armenta said when asked if he wanted an apology for the attacks. "The damage is already done. It's worldwide now. There's comments all over, there's, you know, disrespect towards Native Americans and towards my family. We never, in any way, shape, or form, meant to disrespect any Native Americans or any tribes," Armenta said on Fox News's Jesse Watters Primetime.

Armenta added that the Native American tribe he and his family are part of, the Chumash Tribe, does not wear the type of headdress his son wore at the game and that it was worn as "a costume piece" to support the Chiefs. He also said other Native American tribes have spoken on the situation, with some saying that "it's OK. Some think it's not OK."

The young boy also shared a few thoughts on the situation, saying the ordeal has made him "a little nervous." He added that a lot of his classmates "are getting excited" over the situation.

The article accusing Armenta's son of racism was posted on Monday, with the boy's mother stating on Facebook that her son is Native American, adding for those pushing the story to "just stop already." The boy's grandfather is Raul Armenta, a board member of the Chumash Tribe located in Santa Ynez in California.

The story that attacked the young Kansas City Chiefs fan was widely mocked online for pushing a false narrative, with billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk calling the author of the story "an unapologetic racist and a deceiver."

As of Thursday morning, the outlet's story on the young boy is still online.
