NextImg:Expel every single student involved in radical, violent disruptions of free speech

Thursday night, former collegiate swimmer Riley Gaines had to be escorted out of San Francisco State University by police after rabid, violent students physically attacked her. She was on campus to give a speech about saving women’s sports and ended up barricaded in a classroom for nearly three hours. Her husband said a male student wearing a dress hit her at least twice while she tried to escape the chaos.

A few days prior, conservative commentator Ian Haworth was similarly shouted down at the University at Albany, where he had been invited by the school’s Turning Point USA chapter to speak on the importance of free speech on college campuses. Haworth could barely get two words in before protesting students began chanting “F*** TPUSA” over and over and over again. The school eventually told Haworth he could carry on his speech in a different classroom while the protesting students were allowed to continue screaming at him from outside the door.

MY FREE SPEECH EVENT WAS SHOUTED DOWN BY CAMPUS PROTESTERS

The fact that both of these incidents occurred within a week of each other — and within a month of the outrageous Stanford Law School meltdown , in which students berated a sitting federal judge — should set off five-alarm bells in every single corner of society, but especially within the universities themselves. How can these schools, which claim to be respectable institutions, stand to have their names and reputations destroyed by the horrific behavior of their students? And why, for the love of God, won’t they do something about it?

The solution to the intolerance and bigotry on college campuses today is quite simple: Expel every single student involved in an inappropriate disruption of free speech .

That’s it. That’s all these schools need to do.

Not even Stanford Law School will take this necessary action against students who told Judge Kyle Duncan they hoped his daughters would be raped. Likewise, I doubt San Francisco State University will punish the student who physically assaulted Gaines.

Universities’ refusal to hold students accountable is the reason these awful events continue to occur. Students know there will be no repercussions for even the most egregious behavior, so they act like petty despots.

The problem, of course, is that what happens on college campuses does not stay there. And soon, the petty despots running America’s universities will be running its corporate boardrooms, law firms, and academic institutions.

Employers ought to keep this in mind when making hiring decisions. Indeed, if they were smart, they’d follow the example of Judges James Ho and Elizabeth Branch and refuse to hire graduates from schools that turn a blind eye to the bigotry of their students.
