Former New York Democratic state Sen. David Carlucci got into a heated debate with Fox News host Harris Faulkner on the Democratic Party’s future, specifically how it can navigate President Donald Trump’s agenda.

Roughly a month into Trump’s second presidential term, Carlucci contended that Democrats have a “very easy” path forward despite the party having “conflicting opinions and ideas.” Going forward, Carlucci argued that Trump and Republicans will be responsible for the direction of the nation, including when both will “crash” it.

Faulkner then appeared perplexed and asked if Carlucci was “rooting” against the United States, as “that’s what it sounds like.” When the former lawmaker insisted that he was not, Faulkner claimed that he wanted the nation’s leader to fail, prompting Carlucci to disagree again.

“I hope the president does well, but he’s only done announcements,” Carlucci claimed on Fox News’s The Faulkner Focus. “There hasn’t been any actual results. There hasn’t been cost savings, and this budget proposal that’s coming up is going to prove that, that yes, there might be tax cuts for the wealthiest, but there’s going to be layoffs for Americans!”

When Faulkner had a moment to talk uninterrupted, she cited how the Trump administration has fulfilled its campaign promise to secure the southern border and that illegal immigration is down to “a trickle.” Carlucci retorted by asking how that has affected people’s financial situations, contending that the consequences of this would be seen in the 2026 midterm elections.

DEMOCRATS ARE LEARNING: IT’S NOT 2017 ALL OVER AGAIN

Tiffany Smiley, a former Washington Senate candidate, was also on the panel with Carlucci and argued that he was proving the point that Democrats are suffering from an “identity crisis,” joking that Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer’s (D-NY) only response is to “cry and scream how awful Donald Trump is.”

On how Democrats can respond to Trump, the Washington Examiner’s Byron York argued that the party does not have the same “hysteria” that it was able to muster and maintain against Trump during his first presidential campaign.
