First lady Melania Trump launched a cryptocurrency “meme coin” on the eve of her husband’s presidential inauguration, just days after he issued a similar token.

Trump alerted supporters on Sunday that the “Official Melania Meme” was live.

The coins are not intended for serious investor use, but rather to provide a cultural symbol of support for the first lady, according to the website for the token.

“A meme is a cultural element, typically an image, video, or phrase, that spreads rapidly through the internet, often adapted and reimagined by different users. In crypto, meme tokens represent digital artwork and shared cultural moments,” Melaniameme.com reads.

Buyers are also warned that the cryptocurrency is “not intended to be, or to be the subject of, an investment opportunity, investment contract, or security of any type.”

As his administration signals a pro-crypto agenda is on the horizon, President Donald Trump launched his own cryptocurrency on Friday. Like Melania Trump’s tokens, her husband’s new meme coins have no real value.

“Have Fun!” the president said in a Truth Social post promoting the new tokens. “It’s time to celebrate everything we stand for: WINNING! Join my very special Trump Community.”

The cryptocurrency-friendly campaign from the Trumps comes as the president has vowed to make the U.S. the “crypto capital” of the world. In December 2024, the president tapped David Sacks as his “crypto czar” to lead a council of advisers in crafting a legal framework for the crypto industry. Donald Trump has likewise lined his incoming administration with a host of crypto-friendly appointees, including Paul Atkins, Howard Lutnick, and Scott Bessent.

After the president released his meme coins Friday, they reached an estimated value in the tens of billions on paper.

However, the value plummeted after the first lady’s coins debuted — dropping from $72 to around $42 by Monday afternoon.
