NextImg:Even New Jersey lawmakers are smarter than Californians - Washington Examiner

California Democrats do a good job of never learning from their own mistakes when mismanaging their state. Why would they bother learning from the mistakes of other states when running face-first into the same walls?

California Democrats are pushing ahead with their plan to ban multiuse plastic bags at grocery stores after previously banning single-use plastic bags. You know how it goes: This ban will help somehow save the planet, even though the United States is responsible for less than 1% of global plastic waste (of which California represents an even smaller number) while China is responsible for over 20%. If California can find any way to “save the planet” while making life more difficult for residents, you can be assured the state will jump at the chance to implement it.

If you are wondering how a plastic bag ban could backfire, you need only look at news out of New Jersey just five months ago. In 2022, New Jersey went ahead with its own plastic bag ban. Earlier this year, it was revealed that the alternative bags New Jersey residents were using were worse for the environment. These reusable nonwoven polypropylene bags, the production of which led to a 500% increase in greenhouse gas emissions compared to 2015, must be used 7,100 times to offset their negative impact on the environment.

Again, we learned this in January of this year. New Jersey residents, we learned, had tripled their plastic consumption after the law was implemented. Somehow, California witnessed this embarrassment from another heavily Democratic state and, just a few months later, decided to try the exact same thing.

Maybe California Democrats have the secret formula that wasn’t shared with New Jersey when it comes to making this ban work. Then again, when is the last time you remember California Democrats being uniquely successful where other states had failed? Or even being uniquely successful in the first place?
