The abortion rights group EMILY's List has put 23 vulnerable House Republicans "on notice" as it eyes Democratic pickup opportunities in the 2024 election cycle.

Its list targets "extremist anti-choice House Republicans" who won by small margins in the 2022 midterm elections. Some of the notable names include the freshmen part of New York's mini red wave, including Reps. George Santos (R-NY), Nick LaLota (R-NY), Anthony D'Esposito (R-NY), Marc Molinaro (R-NY), and Brandon Williams (R-NY).

“There are innumerable reasons why Rep. George Santos should not be in office, from his dishonesty about his background to his campaign finance violations and beyond," EMILY'S List President Laphonza Butler said in a statement. "Santos is also a virulent anti-choice extremist, even going so far as to say that he would support criminal penalties for doctors who provide reproductive health care. Santos cannot be trusted — to tell the truth or to defend our rights."

In her statement on Molinaro, Butler called him "wildly out-of-step with the vast majority of New Yorkers and all Americans," adding that his district "deserves better, and it represents a critical opportunity to flip a seat from red to blue and ensure that a true pro-choice champion is elected in Molinaro’s place.”

Much of this list overlaps with the incumbents Republicans themselves have pointed out as vulnerable. The National Republican Congressional Committee circulated a list of 19 members who won within a 5-point margin, but its list includes several representatives EMILY's List is not targeting: Reps. John James (R-MI), Ryan Zinke (R-MT), and Derrick Van Orden (R-WI). Garcia, Miller-Meeks, Hinson, and Santos all appear on EMILY'S List targets but not on the NRCC's list.

The Supreme Court's overturning of Roe v. Wade in June made abortion one of the biggest topics in the midterm cycle and appeared to have hurt Republicans in competitive races. The ruling returned the matter to the state and federal legislatures for the first time in 50 years.
