Elon Musk, the former adviser to President Donald Trump and current CEO of Tesla, X, and SpaceX, has called for the Southern Poverty Law Center to “shut down.”

Musk called the organization “evil” and said it persistently spreads “hate.” The former head of the Department of Government Efficiency commented on his X account on early Thursday morning, quoting a post from right-wing political commentator and social media personality Mike Cernovich.

“The SPLC is an evil organization that spreads hate propaganda relentlessly,” Musk posted. “It needs to be shut down.”

Musk’s comments are not the first time he has expressed disdain for the SPLC. He has been highly-critical of the far-Left advocacy organization in recent years.

In May 2025, the SPLC listed Turning Point USA on its “2024 Year in Hate and Extremism Report.” The SPLC described Turning Point as a “well-funded, hard-right organization with links to Southern Poverty Law Center-identified hard-right extremists and a tremendous amount of influence in conservative politics.”

Turning Point USA founder and CEO at the time, Charlie Kirk, condemned the report and classification of his group. He responded with a post on X.

“The SPLC has added Turning Point to their ridiculous ‘hate group’ list, right next to the KKK and neo-Nazis, a cheap smear from a washed-up org that’s been fleecing scared grandmas for decades,” Kirk said. “They somehow still rake in over $100 million a year peddling their ‘hate map’ nonsense, sitting pretty in their Montgomery ‘Poverty Palace’ while crying about ‘hate’ to line their pockets. Even former staffers called their racket a ‘con.’”

Elon Musk commented on Kirk’s post, calling the SPLC a “scam organization.”

In November 2024, when responding to a post by Seth Dillon, CEO of the satire site, The Babylon Bee. Dillon commented on X about the SPLC planning to release a report doxxing several of his staff members. In response, Musk again criticized the SPLC.

“The Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) is a criminal organization imo [in my opinion],” Musk posted
