Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona lamented the popularity of TikTok while on The View on Friday.
Cardona appeared on the talk show at the tail end of National Education Week to discuss the current problems in the U.S. education system. Host Sara Haines asked Cardona how the department plans to combat the misinformation that is rampant on TikTok yet greatly influencing young users on the platform.

"TikTok is the new Google. It's the new Google. That's where they get their information," Cardona said.
As a former teacher, the secretary shared a lesson he used to teach students in which he laid out Tic Tac mints amid prescription drug pills for them to differentiate between.
"That's what we need to be doing now in our schools and at homes, telling students this is misinformation or disinformation trying to persuade you a certain way," Cardona said. "We have to make sure they're aware of it."
The education secretary avoided Joy Behar's question about "getting rid" of TikTok. Currently, legislators are working on a ban against the platform, but it is only prohibited for government employees, such as Cardona himself. However, he implied that his own two teenage children use the platform.
