A climate activist group called the Tyre Extinguishers took credit for deflating the tires on dozens of vehicles in the Boston, Massachusetts, neighborhood of Beacon Hill on Wednesday.
“Great action by the new TX Boston group who last night took out 43 SUVs in the Beacon Hill area, one of the wealthiest areas of the city,” Tyre Extinguishers tweeted.

The group said it targeted 43 large, luxury, gas-powered SUVs, avoiding electric or hybrid cars, or those with a handicap tag, leaving notes titled, “Your gas guzzler kills,” explaining their motives.
“We are defending ourselves against climate change, air pollution and unsafe drivers,” the group's website states.
The group claims that SUVs are a climate danger, creating pollution and causing danger to public safety. “SUVs and 4x4s are a disaster for our health, our public safety and our climate,” according to the website. “Bigger and bigger cars are dominating our towns and cities, and all so a privileged few can flaunt their wealth.”
Last summer, the group claimed responsibility for deflating 40 SUVs on the Upper East Side in New York City, leaving similar notes on vehicles.

The activists claim their movement has encouraged other groups to pursue similar missions.
Tyre Extinguishers reportedly has members in 15 countries, claiming to have deflated more than 10,000 SUV tires since March 2022. The DundeeFlators (Scotland), "Reifenbande Wien" (Tyre Gang Vienna), Les Degonfleurs (France), and SUVVersive (Italy) are all listed as internationally-aligned organizations.
