Eagle Pass Mayor Rolando Salinas Jr. said he believes "100%" that President Joe Biden is at fault for the recent increase in immigrants in his border town.
The city is on the banks of the Rio Grande and recently issued an emergency declaration over the 4,000 foreign nationals that illegally crossed the river between ports of entry and under the international bridge. It is set to expire in seven days from Thursday. Salinas was asked during an interview if he faulted Biden for the sudden increase.

"I will be honest with you. I believe 100% he does bear some responsibility for this crisis," Salinas said. "I haven’t heard from anybody in the administration. The president hasn’t put out a statement, the vice president, I haven’t heard from anybody."
Some 800 new active-duty personnel are set to be sent to the border to team up with the 2,500 National Guard members already serving. However, Salinas claimed that no one in the administration has called him with a plan of action.
"Nobody bothered to call me," Salinas went on. "We are on the border asking for help. This is unacceptable. Just enforce the laws that are on the books. We are a nation of laws. That’s all I ask for is that it shouldn’t be like this."
Salinas said he would like to see more effort from the White House to discourage immigrants from crossing the border illegally.

"We should be able to enforce laws. If you want to come here, good, come legally. A lot of people have. It takes a lot of money and years to do it the right way," Salinas said. "It’s not fair for those people that now you have thousands of people coming in without one single consequence. It’s just not fair."
Salinas has complained about a lack of communication from the Biden administration since May of last year, shortly before Title 42 expired, which was a statute from 2020 that prohibited asylum seekers from entering the country because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
