Lawmakers are reacting to the highly anticipated report from special counsel John Durham that looked into the origins and conduct of the FBI investigation regarding alleged ties between Donald Trump's 2016 presidential campaign and Russia.

The report drew strong reactions from Republican lawmakers, and some said it proved the Trump-Russia investigation was a "witch hunt." Democrats largely dismissed the findings of the report.

House Majority Leader Steve Scalise (R-LA) said the report showed there was no evidence to open the Trump-Russia investigation and that "there must be consequences."

"The Durham report reveals that Obama's FBI had zero actual evidence of collusion when they kicked off the political witch hunt of Donald Trump. We have said this all along. Now there must be consequences," Scalise said.

Rep. Andy Biggs (R-AZ) called for the FBI to be dismantled and defunded, and Rep. Mary Miller (R-IL) said the report confirmed the FBI's Trump-Russia investigation was a "partisan witch hunt."

"The Durham Report confirms the FBI's Russia Collusion Hoax was a partisan WITCH HUNT against Pres. Trump for political purposes. The FBI also ignored the Biden Family receiving cash & diamonds from China/Russia/Ukraine & helped Big Tech CENSOR journalists before 2020! CORRUPT!" Miller tweeted.

House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan (R-OH) tweeted that he has contacted the Department of Justice in an effort to get Durham to testify before his committee next week.

House Judiciary Committee ranking member Jerry Nadler (D-NY) blasted the report, saying it did not provide any new findings unrevealed in the investigation by special counsel Robert Mueller.

The long-awaited report found there was no proper basis for the FBI and DOJ to launch an investigation into ties between the Trump campaign and Russia.

Durham concluded in the report that "based on the evidence gathered in the multiple exhaustive and costly investigations of these matters," including the special counsel's own inquiry, "neither U.S. law enforcement nor the Intelligence Community appears to have possessed any actual evidence of collusion in their holdings at the commencement of the Crossfire Hurricane investigation."
