Former President Donald Trump said Thursday his attorneys had a "productive meeting" with special counsel Jack Smith's team despite his legal team being informed of a potential forthcoming indictment.
"My attorneys had a productive meeting with the DOJ this morning, explaining in detail that I did nothing wrong, was advised by many lawyers, and that an Indictment of me would only further destroy our Country. No indication of notice was given during the meeting — Do not trust the Fake News on anything!" Trump posted on his social media platform Truth Social.

Trump's legal team is preparing for the possibility that a federal grand jury will vote on charges against the former president as early as Thursday, three sources familiar with the matter told NBC News.
On July 18, the former president posted on Truth Social that he was notified that he is the target of an investigation into the Jan. 6, 2021, riot at the U.S. Capitol and efforts to subvert the 2020 election.
The target letter cited three federal statutes related to deprivation of rights, conspiracy to defraud the country, and witness tampering.
Members of the grand jury have been witnessing testimony in Smith's investigation into alleged 2020 election subversion and alleged efforts to impede the peaceful transfer of power. Reporters on Thursday posted that members of the grand jury were entering the courthouse.
Smith has already indicted Trump, charging him in Florida with allegedly mishandling classified documents after he left the Oval Office in 2021. Trump was also indicted in New York this year in a case surrounding $130,000 paid to porn star Stormy Daniels during the final days of the 2016 presidential campaign. Trump has pleaded not guilty in both cases.
