Former President Donald Trump raked in over $35 million dollars for his presidential campaign in the second quarter.

The figure, which includes money taken in by Trump's campaign and political action committees, is nearly twice that taken in during the first quarter, according to Politico. The figure appears to show that the former president's two indictments are helping him with fundraising and shows his increasing dominance over the Republican field.

Trump's messages to his supporters asking for donations are centered largely around his legal troubles, and the strategy appears to be making gains.

"When Biden’s corrupt DOJ indicted and arraigned my father as a completely innocent man, I knew right then and there that tonight's FEC-mandated deadline would become the single most important deadline EVER for our movement," an email from the Trump Save America Joint Fundraising Committee, signed by Donald Trump Jr. and sent to supporters, read. "Tonight, we can PROVE that no matter how vicious the attacks become, our America First Movement — just like my father — will never, ever give up on our mission to SAVE AMERICA."

News of Trump's fundraising total comes as the former president continues to increase the gap between himself and Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL), his foremost rival for the Republican nomination. The DeSantis campaign raised an impressive $8.2 million in the first 24 hours after launch, more than Trump took in in the 24 hours following his November announcement.

While DeSantis hasn't yet released his fundraising totals for this quarter, he will be hard-pressed to beat the total of Trump's campaign.
