“Very sadly, we’re a nation in decline, and yet, they go after a popular president,” Trump said in the video.
“They go after him on a boxes hoax. Just like the Russia Russia Russia hoax,” Trump said in the video, referring to himself. “It’s election interference at the highest level.”
“I’m an innocent man. I’m an innocent person,” Trump said.
Trump largely assessed the situation as political persecution from Democrats. “It’s called election interference – they’re trying to destroy a reputation so they can win an election,” he said.

A FiveThirtyEight poll referencing data from Thursday had Trump comfortably leading the GOP presidential primary pool. The poll had Trump commanding over 53% of support from respondents compared to the 21.3% DeSantis garnered.
The indictment Thursday resulted from a monthslong investigation by special counsel Jack Smith, who is a former Department of Justice prosecutor, into whether Trump broke the law by keeping classified documents at his Mar a Lago home in Florida after his time in the White House, according to the Associated Press.
