Former President Donald Trump's criminal trial in New York over alleged falsified business records could face delay due to his "rapidly evolving" court schedule, according to a letter from the presiding judge.

"In light of the many recent developments involving Mr. Trump and his rapidly evolving trial schedule, I do not believe it would be fruitful for us to conference this case on September 15 to discuss scheduling," New York Supreme Court Justice Juan Merchan wrote in a letter to Trump's lawyer Todd Blanche.

The federal judge presiding over a separate criminal case accusing Trump of scheming to overturn the 2020 election set a March 4 trial date, and another criminal case over alleged mishandling of classified documents is slated to begin in the spring.

Merchan said it would be better to discuss scheduling over the New York case, which involves hush money payments paid to porn star Stormy Daniels during the 2016 election, in February, when "we will have a much better sense at that time whether there are any actual conflicts."

Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg said earlier this summer that he would be willing to defer to the schedule for federal prosecutors on his case calendar, according to an interview with WNYC.

Trump has pleaded not guilty in New York to 34 felony counts of falsifying business records related to the $130,000 hush payment made to Daniels in the final days of his 2016 presidential campaign.

The trial in New York is just one of six criminal and civil trials Trump faces in the coming months. In early October, a civil trial will take place in the Empire State in a case brought by Attorney General Letitia James over alleged improprieties in the way Trump valued his real estate holdings.
