WASHINGTON, DC — Former President Donald Trump arrived at the federal courthouse in Washington, D.C., on Thursday afternoon where he is expected to plead not guilty to a number of federal charges related to his efforts to overturn the 2020 election and the subsequent Jan. 6 riot at the Capitol.

Trump arrived at the E. Barrett Prettyman U.S. Courthouse through an underground entrance after flying into Reagan National Airport in Arlington, Virginia, from Newark, New Jersey. A crowd of supporters awaited his arrival outside the building's main entrance.

Trump is set to appear before Magistrate Judge Moxila A. Upadhyaya as he is arraigned on four federal charges, including one count of conspiracy to defraud the United States, one count of conspiracy to obstruct an official proceeding, one count of obstruction of and attempt to obstruct an official proceeding, and one count of conspiracy against rights.

A crowd began gathering outside the courthouse late Wednesday evening, prompting law enforcement officials to erect barriers around the building ahead of the former president's appearance. Media outlets and their equipment stretched across the sidewalks early Thursday morning as Trump supporters and anti-Trump supporters began to gather outside the courthouse in the hours leading up to his arraignment.

The court appearance marks Trump's third indictment case so far this year, and it comes less than two months after he was indicted on charges related to his mishandling of classified documents — a separate investigation by Jack Smith, who is also heading the Jan. 6 charges Trump faces this week.

Trump will be digitally fingerprinted by the U.S. Marshals upon entering the courthouse, although the former president is not expected to have a mugshot taken or be placed in handcuffs. He will then be escorted to the courtroom to enter his plea.
