Stephen A. Smith shared his thoughts on former President Donald Trump's indictment hours after it was announced.
The ESPN commentator predicted the latest indictment, including 37 federal charges surrounding accusations that Trump mishandled classified documents after leaving the White House, will not "matter that much to several people." Trump faces charges of violating the Espionage Act, making false claims, and conspiracy to obstruct justice.
REPUBLICAN PRIMARY: BIG TEND OR BIG TOP?
"At the end of the day, what we're asking ourselves are: 'Is he going to end up in jail? Are you going to prevent him from running for the White House?' And the answer for most people is no," Smith said on Newsmax on Thursday. "It's going to be much ado about nothing."

Smith listed a number of things that have yet to decrease Trump's popularity, including a previous indictment and two impeachments.
"Even a cat doesn't have as many lives as Donald Trump appears to have when it comes to being in the political stratosphere of things in this moment and time," Smith said.
Newsmax host Chris Cuomo agreed with Smith, saying, "They haven't nailed" Trump.

According to Smith, the indictment could be a "detrimental effect against the Democrats" as voters could blame the party for using a tactic to ensure Trump does not win the 2024 election.
The former president is set to appear in court on Tuesday, June 13, at 3 p.m. at the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida.
