Former Vice President Mike Pence railed against the indictment of former President Donald Trump Thursday.

Pence sat for an interview with CNN Anchor Wolf Blitzer. In it, he blasted the indictment as political prosecution and said it was unreasonable to take such unprecedented action over campaign finance issues.

“I think the unprecedented indictment of a former president of the United States on a campaign finance issue is an outrage,” Pence said.

He went on to say that the move looked to millions of Americans like political prosecution.

Pence said the threshold for grand jury indictments was low and implied the move was unfounded.

“You can indict a ham sandwich,” he said. Pence went on to call the indictment “one more example of the two tiered justice system that the American people have had enough of.”

Blitzer brought up Pence’s status as a law and order politician. He asked the former vice president if Trump should drop out of the 2024 race if convicted.

Pence said that situation was very far off and refused to give an answer. “I promise to answer that question if that approaches,” he said.

Pence went on to say that the indictment would further divide the country.

“I think this is an outrage, but I also think at a time when the American people are struggling so much, that this will only further serve to divide our country.”

Pence also said there was no place for violent rhetoric on either side in the situation. The comment came in reference to Trumps calls for protests and warnings of possible violence.
