Former Vice President Mike Pence's notes were mentioned in the charging document of former President Donald Trump that came down Tuesday.
The notes were taken during a meeting with the former president sometime before the Jan. 6 riot. Pence's notes allegedly detailed what Trump said about election fraud and how he planned to challenge the election.

Some parts of Pence's notes are quoted in the indictment, including, "Bottom line— won every state by 100,000s of votes" and "We won every state." The lines are allegedly quotes from Trump, who was urging Pence not to certify the election.

The detail that Pence took contemporaneous notes is noteworthy in and of itself, as it could indicate that he expected legal troubles afterward.
In a statement on the indictment, Pence defended his conduct and denounced Trump while not directly referencing his note-taking.

"I will have more to say about the government’s case after reviewing the indictment," he said. "The former president is entitled to the presumption of innocence but with this indictment, his candidacy means more talk about January 6th and more distractions."
"On January 6th, Former President Trump demanded that I choose between him and the Constitution," Pence added, echoing previous statements. "I chose the Constitution and I always will."
