Sen. Josh Hawley (R-MO) blasted the latest indictment against former President Donald Trump, saying it is an intentional effort to “keep the ruling party in power.”
“This is the latest effort to keep the ruling party in power,” Hawley told The Ingraham Angle. “That’s what this is about.”
BIDEN HEADS TO WISCONSIN NECK AND NECK WITH TRUMP
“What is clear about this is, this is an effort by the ruling party, the Democrat Party, across states, in the federal government to make sure that anybody who criticizes them gets indicted,” the Missouri senator added. “It’s not just Trump, although they are focused on Trump. It’s also Catholics, who have had their parishes infiltrated. It’s also pro-life demonstrators, who had SWAT teams sent to their doors. It’s also those who have protested peacefully that the FBI show up and knock at their doors. It’s parents who have gone [to] school board meetings and now have been labeled domestic terrorists by the Biden administration.”
“I never thought we would see any of this in American history. We have seen all of it in just the last couple of years,” Hawley continued. “The common thread is, if you challenge them, if you challenge the ruling party, the ruling elites, they will use the force of law against you.”
Hawley acknowledged that the latest indictment brought against Trump by a Georgia grand jury on Monday, accusing him and his allies of attempting to subvert the 2020 election, could deter individuals from considering government service.
“This is the message they are trying to send, a message loud and clear, and the message is: ‘Don’t mess with us,’” Hawley said. “Why are they going after Trump? Because he messed with them. He challenged them across the board.”
“So I think the message is real clear: ‘Don’t challenge us. Don’t go to work for anybody who will challenge us. Don’t vote for Donald Trump or anybody like him, or we’ll treat you as a domestic terrorist,’” he added.
Hawley said if the Democrats are allowed to succeed with such a threat, “This isn’t the United States anymore. Our constitutional democracy doesn’t exist anymore.”

The 41-count Georgia indictment names 19 defendants and charges Trump with felony racketeering and numerous conspiracy charges.
If Trump is found guilty of charges under the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act statute in Georgia, he could face five to 20 years in prison and a fine of $25,000 or three times the amount of money gained from the criminal activity, depending on which is the larger sum.
