Former President Donald Trump raised more than $4 million in 24 hours after he was indicted by a Manhattan grand jury, his presidential campaign announced Friday.
Trump's campaign said more than a quarter of the donations came from "first time donors" and people in all 50 states. His campaign argued that the donations solidified his position as the front-runner for the GOP nomination for president in 2024.

“This incredible surge of grassroots contributions confirms that the American people see the indictment of President Trump as a disgraceful weaponization of our justice system by a Soros-funded prosecutor,” Trump's campaign said in a press release on Friday.
The uptick in donations comes shortly after the grand jury voted to indict the former president on business fraud charges, including one felony charge. The case concerns an investigation into alleged hush money paid to porn star Stormy Daniels in 2016.
Shortly after the indictment was announced, Trump called for his supporters to donate money to his campaign in an email. He promised that the "witch hunt" led by Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg would backfire on President Joe Biden.
“Ever since I ran for president as a complete political outsider, the corrupt ruling class has tried to shut down our America First movement,” the email said. “The Deep State will use anything at their disposal to shut down the one political movement that puts you first.”
The indictment made history on Thursday; it's the first time a president has been charged in a criminal matter.

Other Republicans attempted to cash in on the former president's indictment as well. Sen. J.D. Vance (R-OH), a staunch ally of Trump, sent a text to his constituents that urged them to "demand [Trump's] freedom" by clicking a link to a fundraising page.
Trump is scheduled to be arraigned on Tuesday, and he is expected to arrive in New York City, where the case is taking place, on Monday.
