The White House sought to distance President Joe Biden from former President Donald Trump's historic arrest in New York.

"This is not something that is a focus for him," press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre told reporters Tuesday. "Of course, this is playing out on many of the networks here on a daily basis for hours and hours, so he will catch parts of the news when he has a moment to catch up on the news of the day."

HOW BIDEN COULD BENEFIT FROM TRUMP INDICTMENT

Jean-Pierre added she had not spoken to Biden about Trump "in recent days on these developments," repeating the White House was not advised of Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg's indictment before the prosecutor sought it from the grand jury he impaneled and decided to bring charges against the former president.

"He was briefed by his chief of staff, and he learned about this, just like all of you, through the reporting," she said.

Earlier this week, Biden dismissed security concerns around Trump and his arraignment, citing his trust in the New York City Police Department.

"We are all prepared," Jean-Pierre said.

She declined to comment on other concerns about trust in law enforcement and the rule of law.

Trump was arrested Tuesday in New York after surrendering to police for what is reported to be 34 charges related to falsifying business records to cover up hush money payments to women he had affairs with before the 2016 election.
