Former CNN anchor Don Lemon reacted to former Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley’s flubbed answer about the Civil War.
Lemon took to X, formerly known as Twitter, on Thursday to acknowledge it was a “poor choice of words” when Haley did not cite slavery as a reason for the start of the Civil War. Haley has since clarified her comment by adding that slavery was “of course” a reason the war broke out.

“Nikki Haley wants grace for using a poor choice of words when, after I misspoke in some comments involving her, she didn’t offer me that same grace, immediately and very publicly took me to task, and then fundraised off of it,” Lemon wrote.

The former anchor was referring to his time at CNN when, in reporting on Haley’s campaign earlier this year, he suggested she was past “her prime.” It was taken to be a dig at her age, which was met with outrage online.
“However, I’m glad she clarified what she should have said,” Lemon continued. “And, in the spirit of the season, let’s see if her actions match her corrected words moving forward.”
Since publishing the post, Lemon has pinned it to the top of his X profile, so it is the first post seen by users who visit his page.

CNN fired Lemon earlier this year after 17 years. He has not addressed any of the details of his firing, only implying his “journalistic duty” was on the line. After his firing, Haley continued to air campaign ads about him.
Lemon was fired while then-CEO Chris Licht was in charge of the broadcasting company, but Licht has since been fired.
