The Justice Department fired Maurene Comey, the daughter of former FBI Director James Comey, on Wednesday.
Maurene Comey was an assistant U.S. attorney in the Southern District of New York and helped prosecute Jeffrey Epstein and his associate Ghislaine Maxwell.

The New York Times reported she was being fired under Article II of the Constitution, which describes the powers granted to the president. Her firing comes after President Donald Trump has attacked anyone pushing for the release of the Epstein files, declaring the documents a Democrat-led “scam.” His rhetoric on the files has stunned his supporters, who believed the administration was vigorously pursuing their release.
“The [FBI] can look at this Jeffrey Epstein hoax. … That’s all put out by Democrats,” he told Real America’s Voice Wednesday. “Some of the naive Republicans fall right into line like they always do. They don’t have the sustainability.”
Trump also said on Tuesday that the files were made up by James Comey and former Presidents Barack Obama and Joe Biden.
Conservative influencer Laura Loomer, who holds some influence over Trump, said in May that “Pam Blondi” had been allowing Maurene Comey and her husband, Lucas Issacharoff, to work at the Southern District of New York.
“Both Maurene Comey and Lucas Issacharoff need to be FIRED from the DOJ immediately. If Blondi refuses to fire them, she should RESIGN,” she said. After Maurene was fired, Loomer said it was “+1 for Blondi today!” Maurene Comey joins a list of officials removed from public service following Loomer’s call for their termination.

It’s unclear if Issacharoff has also been fired.
According to Politico, prosecutors in the office rallied around Maurene Comey, with dozens of them banding together to escort her out of the office for the last time.
