The Department of Justice charged the Jan. 6 defendant who was found with firearms and ammunition in his van near former President Barack Obama’s house last month in a federal indictment.

Taylor Taranto, 37, was indicted on a total of six charges, including one felony count of carrying a pistol without a license, one felony count of possessing a large-capacity ammunition feeding device, and four misdemeanor charges related to his Jan. 6 offenses. Court records showed the latter four charges involved trespassing, disorderly conduct at the Capitol riot, and parading in the Capitol.

Law enforcement arrested Taranto on June 29 in the Kalorama neighborhood of Washington, D.C., after he “made several concerning statements regarding the residences in the area,” according to the DOJ.

Those statements were allegedly made public in a Telegram message and a YouTube livestream, officials said at the time of his apprehension.

“During the arrest of Taranto, law enforcement officers searched his vehicle and found two firearms and hundreds of rounds of ammunition,” the agency said in its press release.

The man reportedly tried to rush Obama’s house after former President Donald Trump posted his predecessor's address to Truth Social. Taranto was then pursued and detained by the Secret Service.

The announced charges against Taranto come after a federal judge denied him bail Wednesday due to the danger he posed to the public, the Washington Post reported. He remains in a district prison.
