NextImg:DOGE could withhold federal aid from states harboring ‘criminal aliens’: MTG - Washington Examiner

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) suggested that governors and mayors of sanctuary states or cities for illegal immigrants could “absolutely” have federal aid withheld from them through the Department of Government Efficiency’s work.

The newly-formed DOGE, co-headed by billionaires Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy, aims to make massive cuts to government spending, in which House Republicans are expected to form a subcommittee to coordinate with the agency. In previewing DOGE’s work, Greene said the agency will be looking at everything including “government-funded media programs like NPR” to grant programs funding “sex apps in Malaysia.”

“I want to talk to the people at the Pentagon and ask them why they can’t find billions of dollars every single year and why they fail their audit,” Greene said on Fox News’s Sunday Morning Futures with Maria Bartiromo. “But not just that, Maria, I’d like to talk to the governors of sanctuary states and the mayors of sanctuary cities and have them come before our committee and explain why they deserve federal dollars if they’re going to harbor illegal criminal aliens in their states and their cities. We’re going to look in every single aspect, and we don’t care about people’s feelings. We’re going to be searching for the facts and we’re going to be verifying if this is worth spending the American people’s hard-earned tax dollars on.”

Numerous governors and mayors, including Govs. J.B. Pritzker (D-IL), Katie Hobbs (D-AZ), and Boston Mayor Michelle Wu have vowed to oppose President-elect Donald Trump’s proposed mass deportations of illegal immigrants. When pressed on the possibility of these cities or states losing their federal funding should they continue to harbor illegal immigrants, Greene said these sanctuary places utilizing the police to protect these immigrants could “absolutely” expect this.

Greene pointed to the murder of University of Georgia student Laken Riley by an illegal immigrant, and contended “she would be alive today” if New York had not been a sanctuary state. Jose Ibarra, the 26-year-old Venezuelan migrant who killed Riley, was convicted on charges of malice murder and felony murder. He was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole on Wednesday.

“Laken Riley’s story is not a singular story, it’s a story that happens to Americans all over the country,” Greene said. “Nearly every single day, an American is murdered by an illegal alien. If these Democrat governors and mayors want to use their federal dollars and they want to use this funding to harbor illegal criminal aliens then, yeah, we’re coming after their money, and they don’t deserve a single penny of it.”

Last week, Ramaswamy stated that people can expect “mass reductions” to the federal government with DOGE’s work, with some agencies being “deleted outright.”

Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) has also said he is “all in” to help DOGE in any way he is able to. He contended the combination of Trump, Musk, and Ramaswamy are a rare combination who might be able to conquer the “leviathan” that is government waste.
