Two Republican chairmen on the House Department of Government Efficiency Caucus have denied claims from fellow member Rep. Jared Moskowitz (D-FL) that it is “defunct.”

Moskowitz was the first Democrat to join the caucus, cochaired by Reps. Aaron Bean (R-FL), Pete Sessions (R-TX), and Blake Moore (R-UT). However, the Florida Democrat recently called it “a complete failure” because “we haven’t met in months.”

However, Bean and Sessions told the Washington Examiner that Moskowitz was incorrect in his diagnosis of the caucus.

“The DOGE Caucus is alive, well, and fully engaged. We have been actively working behind the scenes to push forward critical reforms through one, ‘Big Beautiful Bill’ that will safeguard America’s financial future,” Bean said. “In addition, we have discussed codifying the DOGE cuts through the [rescissions process] with senior White House officials, including Vice President [JD] Vance, [Office of Management and Budget] Director [Russell] Vought, and Elon Musk. Rest assured, we are here for the long haul, and our work is far from finished.”

Bean was referencing the Wednesday vote from the House Ways and Means Committee that approved a $3.8 trillion tax cut over the next 10 years. Both he and Moore are on the committee and were among the 26-19 vote to pass the tax legislation.

However, Moskowitz denied that the caucus influenced Musk, who heads DOGE. He said, “We weren’t involved at all in anything Elon was in charge of. Zero. Zilch. Nada. [Musk] did it all on his own.”

“As I have previously stated, the Congressional DOGE Caucus is distinct from the Administration’s DOGE initiative led by Elon Musk,” Sessions explained to the Washington Examiner. “We are remaining an active bicameral group of legislators committed to pursuing lasting legislative solutions that reduce government red tape and streamline bureaucratic inefficiencies, ensuring the government serves the American people with greater effectiveness and accountability. Our focus has always been on congressional action, though we share goals with the US DOGE Service, we are not involved with executive branch DOGE initiatives.”

These comments follow Musk’s pledge to scale back his volunteer effort to DOGE in the coming weeks. Musk reported, “In the grand scheme of things, I think we’ve been effective. Not as effective as I like.”

DOGE is operating on a goal to accomplish all of its work by July 4, 2026.
