The Democratic National Committee is flexing results from their “Organizing Summer” as Congress reconvenes Tuesday.
The DNC announced its “Organizing Summer” programming during the congressional August recess. During that time, Democratic organizers said they gained 15,000 new volunteers and contacted 1.6 million voters during 150 events across 47 states.

The Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee, Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, and Democratic Governors Association were also involved in the effort.
“As we head to the fall elections, momentum is on our side. After winning or overperforming in 39 out of 40 elections so far this year, Democrats are ready to sweep the November 2025 elections and take back the House in 2026,” DNC Chair Ken Martin said in a statement.
Martin said the efforts will hold “Republicans accountable for their disastrous vote on Trump’s budget betrayal,” in reference to congressional Republicans’ and President Donald Trump’s landmark “Big, Beautiful” spending bill.
Democrats are looking to several factors they believe are aiding their party ahead of the 2026 midterm elections.
Since the 2024 election, Democrats have dominated nearly every special election, winning several seats in state legislatures in districts that were easily won by Trump that year. Democrats most recently ended Republicans’ supermajority in the Iowa state Senate after the Democratic candidate won in a red district.
At the national level, the party has recruited former lawmakers, including Gov. Roy Cooper (D-NC) and Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH), to run for Senate in purple states that Democrats are hoping to flip from Republican control. Democratic leaders see both candidates as some of their best chances of winning those seats.
Their efforts come as the party’s popularity has remained unfavorable. A Wall Street Journal poll released before the “Organizing Summer” found that 63% of voters have an unfavorable view of the Democratic Party, compared to 33% who hold a favorable view.

There have also been internal disagreements within the national party seen at the DNC summer meeting after two competing resolutions were proposed in response to Israel’s war in Gaza.
Martin retracted a pro-Israel resolution, which had easily passed committee, after a conflicting resolution that would have called for the recognition of a Palestinian state failed.
